Riding in the cold is tricky, and your power source is the heart of the system. Whether you’re a daily commuter, a long-distance tourer, or someone who just wants to stay warm during a winter walk, choosing the right power setup is the key to a comfortable ride.

In this guide, we break down the batteries, voltages, and run times that power the KEIS range, so you can ride with no surprises.

Power Options

The 2 main ways to power KEIS...

Portable Battery Packs

Ideal for off-bike use, commuting, and flexibility.

• 5000mAh 12V battery: works with jackets, vests & trousers

• Glove-specific batteries fit directly into glove cuffs

Vehicle Supply Leads

Providing unlimited heat while riding, the vehicle supply lead (included with almost every garment) is great for long journeys and touring where you need maintain warmth especially in wind chill.

Without a battery you can extend your limits, enhance your dexterity, and not have to worry about short run times.

Battery Run Times

"How long will it last?" is our most common question. Run time depends on the garment’s surface area and your chosen heat setting.

Based on the 5000mAh 12V Battery (On High):

Heated Jacket (J601): ~50 Minutes
Heated Bodywarmer (B501): ~4 Hours

Glove-Specific Battery Sets:

2×4000mAh: ~2 hours on medium | 2 hours and 50 minutes on low
2×6000mAh: ~6–8 hours of warmth on low | 3–4 hours on medium

Charging and Care

To get the most out of your 2–3 year battery lifespan, follow these tips:

The First Charge: Always fully charge your battery before its very first use.
Off-Season Storage: If you aren't using your gear during the summer, charge the battery to 50% and store it in a cool, dry place.
The 6-Month Rule: Never leave a battery unused for more than 6 months. Give it a "top-up" charge twice a year to keep the cells healthy.
Stay Official: Only use official KEIS chargers. While some USB ports might work, they are less efficient and can't match the KEIS fast charger’s 2-hour recovery time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I charge my battery via a motorcycle USB port?

While possible with the correct adapters, it is much less efficient than a wall socket. For the best performance and battery health, we always recommend using the official KEIS fast charger.

Do KEIS heated trousers work with the same battery as the jackets?

Yes. The 5000mAh 12V battery is universal across our jackets, vests, bodywarmers, and trousers. You can also power them all via a 12V vehicle supply lead.

Can I use my older KEIS batteries with brand-new products?

Yes. Our connection system is designed for longevity. As long as the connection is secure and the battery is in good health, older KEIS batteries are compatible with new garments.

Do the jackets have dedicated battery pockets?

Select KEIS jackets feature dedicated battery storage pockets. For models without a specific battery pocket, we recommend using the controller pocket to house your portable power pack.

How heavy are the battery packs?

We design our power packs to be as unobtrusive as possible. The large 5000mAh pack weighs approximately 300g, while the glove-specific batteries are about half that weight.

Can I use my heated gloves off the bike?

Absolutely. By using the glove-specific battery packs (which fit right into the cuffs), you can stay warm while walking, spectating at events, or working outdoors.

How do I safely dispose of an old battery?

Batteries should never be placed in household waste. Follow your local regulations for Li-ion battery recycling. We recommend fully discharging the battery and covering the terminals with tape before taking it to a local recycling center.
