How do I wire KEIS heated clothing to my motorbike?

Fit the KEIS vehicle supply lead to the bike's 12V battery: with the bike off and cool, the red lead goes to the positive (+) terminal and the black lead to the negative (−), with the right fuse in its holder. Route the lead behind the fairings, away from moving and hot parts, and cable-tie it so the plug sits on the left, just in front of the seat. Plug a KEIS jacket, vest or bodywarmer into the lead and it powers the rest of your kit: gloves, trousers and socks plug into it.

Add up the current (amps) of every garment you will power from the bike and choose the next fuse size up. Fuses come with the supply lead. How do I connect heated gloves?

Accepted Answer

From a KEIS jacket, plug each glove into the lead at the end of its sleeve. From a vest or bodywarmer, run the extension leads from the socket under each arm down your riding jacket's sleeves. Straight to the bike, connect both gloves to the Y-lead and the Y-lead to the supply lead. Gloves with a battery pocket can also run from KEIS glove batteries, but never from batteries and a lead at the same time.

Do I need a power controller?

Accepted Answer

Not to get warm: without one, the link lead in a jacket, vest, bodywarmer or trousers runs the garment at full power. A KEIS Power Controller fitted in the controller pocket in its place gives three heat settings (red High, amber Medium, green Low), and the Bluetooth Power Controller adds control from your phone. KEIS gloves have their own heat button.

Can heated clothing drain my motorbike battery?

Accepted Answer

It can if it is left plugged in with the bike off, so unplug your kit from the supply lead whenever you park up, and before refuelling. On small bikes such as a 125cc, powering several garments from the bike is not recommended; KEIS portable batteries are the better choice.
